STARTING SCHOOL

READY  CONFETTI

The night before school is exciting and fun
there are always so many things to be done

Your clothes are ready, your backpack is too
Your classroom is full of fun things you will do

Lots of questions go through your mind
All types of thoughts of every kind

But sometimes we all get the jitters down deep
And that makes it hard to fall fast asleep

So I've made this magic confetti for you
full of promises for the whole year through

On Sunday night when you lay down your head
just sprinkle some under your pillow in bed

The confetti will help you sleep through the night
And wake up in the morning fresh and bright

I'll sprinkle the confetti under my pillow, too,
because I am so excited to come to school and see you!

Who is Mrs Engelbert?

Well, she is a kindergarten teacher at INDIAN HILL SCHOOL, Cincinatti, US

My grandaughter is starting formal schooling . Far away from family ties she, and her parents are facing this challenge alone, Ines , my little brunette princess, being only five

I've read and reread this poem once and again and decided to share it as an instance of committed teaching

You deserve all my gratitude. I feel you are helping us  make Ines grow happy, you are helping her fly

Teaching should be such that what is offered is perceived as a valuable gift and not as a hard duty

Ines is starting the first blank page of a book that , for the time being, is open ended

I've been in the teaching profession for 52 years , there are always great lessons to learn, Miss Engelbert has taught me one
